Drastic Andrew -Save The Machine- Frogville Records
Santa feans are probably more familiar with Andrew Mac Lauchlan's
kitchen creations than with his music, but the owner/pastry chef of
Real Food Nation and Real Food Nation Supper Club off Old Las Vegas
Highway puts just as much ingenuity into his songwriting as he does
into his polenta cake with red-beet ice cream. Performing and
recording under the Drastic Andrew moniker, MacLauchlan crafts
atmospheric tunes that explore love and loss while keeping a hard
focus on the political and social ills of the contemporary world. As
lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter in an ensemble that includes
local musicians such as guitarist/singer/album engneer Bill Palmer,
siger Stephanie Hatfield, and bassist Margaret Burke, MacLauchlan
traverses a wide range of musical styles and excels within all of
them. "John Henry" is a twangy rocker about the famous folk hero not
getting to see his hammer fall thanks to atom splitting and climate
change. The Cat Stevens-esque acoustic guitar lines of "For which I
lied" help remind listeners that "Love goes too far when you forget
who you are." "Twinkle in your eye" is a clever, high-energy
collision of surf rock, honky tonk, and New Wave. Produced by Santa
Fe alt-country maven and frogville label mate Joe West, Save the
Machine is early career David Bowie meets Arlo Guthrie in Willie
Nelson's smoke-filled, biofuel-ready tour bus. It's also one of
2011's finest local productions.

The original, progressive rock of Drastic Andrew
connects personal human experience with universal
themes; love and redemption, devastating loss
and fearless optimism. Drastic’s lyrics speak to
our current consciousness with political commentary
and topics of environmental devastation
as well as a possibly naïve, singular
mission to make the world a better place.
